AIP to Handle Membership and Database Management for the New York Academy of Sciences

Melville, NY, 1 February 2008 — The New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) has selected the American Institute of Physics (AIP) to handle the Academy's membership services and customer database management.

AIP will manage NYAS' member records, including renewals, new membership processing, and fulfillment of member benefit subscriptions. AIP will also manage online meeting registration and e-commerce systems for NYAS, which has some 26,000 members in 140 countries.

"NYAS is a very prestigious organization and we are very pleased to have them partner with us for their membership and customer services," said Lori Carlin, AIP's Director of Fulfillment and Marketing. "Our leading-edge relational database software will allow us to track a broad range of activities for NYAS. The system is very versatile and offers abundant room for enhancement and growth, while providing all the functionality to manage ever-evolving subscription files and membership databases."

AIP is implementing an e-commerce solution that will integrate with its database to allow NYAS members and other customers to view and update their profiles, join the organization or renew their memberships, select or purchase membership benefit products, and register for meetings and conferences.

"NYAS runs more than 100 meetings and conferences per year," said Carlin. "AIP's state-of-the-art capabilities in online meeting registration will help to greatly streamline the registration process for this large portfolio of events. We are working on the transition and conversion now, with launch scheduled for March 2008."

AIP's Circulation & Fulfillment Division performs all membership functions, including new member processing, renewal notice generation and distribution (both in print and online), dues processing, suspension and reinstatement programs, and publication fulfillment. AIP also offers a complete selection of subscription services, including demographic tagging and tracking of subscription history, claims, marketing efforts, customer service, and support for a variety of subscription models.

Founded in 1817, the New York Academy of Sciences is an independent, nonprofit organization with 26,000 members in 140 countries. The Academy's mission is to advance scientific knowledge, positively impact the major global challenges of society with solutions that are science-based, and increase the number of scientifically informed individuals in society at large.
