Scitation® Online Hosting

Bring full functionality to your online publications

Publish Articles Online First
No need to wait for printed issues. With e-First, you can choose to make the electronic article the article of record. Scitation posts individual articles from your publication to the online site as soon as they're approved. E-First articles are fully citable from the time they're published electronically, often weeks before they appear in print. Table of Contents (ToC) alerts for e-First articles are also supported.

Personal Libraries
Users can create "personal libraries" of favorite journals and articles. A personal online filing cabinet stores metadata (title, citation, abstract, and indexing terms) for each article of interest, which your users can share with other colleagues, students, and research assistants. Easy-to-use navigation links presented in each user's collection provide access to the full text.

Download Citations
Users may download reference citations within articles to popular citation managers in a variety of formats.

Rights Management
AIP's partnership with the Copyright Clearance Center allows Scitation publishers to use Rightslink®, a convenient online service that streamlines the permissions process. Publishers define their own business rules, and users can instantly obtain permissions and pay any related fees for re-use of copyrighted material online, eliminating paperwork delays and overhead. Once licensed, the material may be reused legally, according to the terms and conditions set forth in each unique license agreement.

Digital Archiving
AIP can act as a publisher's agent for Portico, a trusted archive service provider. AIP will transfer digital files for published material into a permanent archive to ensure the long term preservation and access to digital content. Portico assures content will be available in specific cases where the publications are no longer available from the publisher.

Content Alerts
You can offer tables of contents to users in HTML, RSS, and text format with appropriate section headings and links to article download and purchase options. In addition, your RSS alerts are available by publication and topic, independent of individual issues. And you can notify authors when their articles have been published on Scitation.

Abstracts
HTML-formatted abstracts with appropriate metadata and indexing terms can be made available for free browsing by users. These pages include links to article download and purchase options. Scitation ensures exact replication of special characters and mathematical symbols.

A Variety of Article Types and Formats
Online publication types include journal articles, conference papers, standards, e-books, and others. You can offer a choice of HTML, PDF, and PostScript file formats to accommodate user preferences for online viewing, downloading, and printing full-text articles. We provide active intra-document linking to equations, tables, figures, and reference citations.

Sophisticated Discovery Tools
Scitation provides comprehensive and integrated navigation, including search and browse services. This easy-to-use, high-capacity search engine goes well beyond basic Boolean full-text retrieval, and includes advanced knowledge retrieval capabilities. Your users may also browse content through publication structure (such as journal, volume, issue), or topical navigation paths using one or more classification systems. They may also use Scitation's personalization services to discover articles of interest.

Links to Primary Publishers
Your subscribers can follow the trail of research as never before. Link from reference citations directly to articles from major scientific publishers. And, link to "cited by" links from other articles on Scitation and CrossRef publisher sites. In addition to supporting online linking, AIP can act as your agent to make metadata deposits into the CrossRef system.

Links to Abstracting and Indexing Databases
Your users can follow reference links to databases of abstracts such as the ISI Web of Science, INSPEC, MEDLINE, SPIN, and other supplemental information services. You can provide your users with the tools for finding related articles and other articles that cite the original source article.

Flexible Business Models, Including Open Access
Scitation makes it easy for publishers to implement the business models that fit their needs. We can support subscriptions, Open Access, Pay Per View, complete digital libraries, product bundles, or timed access. We offer the flexibility to mix any combination of these models across publications.

Pay-per-View Online Document Delivery
Generate additional revenue by selling articles to non-subscribers with Scitation's DocumentStore e-commerce platform. The service allows users to place orders through our secure, online credit card processing system. Your users can use a single username and password to access both DocumentStore and Scitation to make multiple article purchases with our online shopping cart. The DocumentStore also supports discounts and promotions.
